Local artist to release her first six-track album

Local artist has performed on the international stage.

Kwa-Thema – Traditional folk music singer Amanda ‘Ntunja’ Nkosi from Kwa-Thema launched her solo career in 2020 after being with the Mahotella Queens for seven years.

Her musical career started in 2006 when she performed as a vocalist with the Sunshine Jazz band.

Singing with the band inspired Nkosi to study popular music and major in vocal and keyboard techniques at Central Johannesburg College.

Ntunja has performed on big stages globally and as an opening act for artists such as the late Hugh Masekela, Cassper Nyovest and the late Jonny Glegg, to name a few.

Her career has taken her to France, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, among other countries.

In 2014, Ntunja and the Mahotella Queens won a Mirriam Makeba schievement award at the Mbokodo Awards.

She was also nominated in the Basadi in Music Awards for traditional artist of the year.

Ntunja has released a single, Imali, and is working on her six-track album that will be released late next month.

Ntunja said, “I would like to thank the Moshito Music Conference and the South African Music Performance Rights Association (Sampra) as they have made my musical journey possible and walkable. They have been a great help in my career.”
