Duduza police concerned about rape cases

Duduza police are concerned about the growing number of reported rape cases.

Duduza – Duduza police are worried about the rise in rape cases reported in the past few months.

Eight cases were reported in October, four in November, two in December, and three this month.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Nothando Mahlangu said that from these cases, two suspects were unknown to the victim.

“All in all, 10 suspects were arrested with the related cases withdrawn,” she explained.

Duduza Police station commander, Colonel Sarah Mofokeng, said she is concerned that gender-based violence cases often involve former lovers.

“These cases are withdrawn after the two parties reach an agreement. This sets the wrong precedent because couples cannot use state resources to fight and spite one another,” she added.
