Four men shot and killed in Tsakani

The community of Tsakani is reeling with fear and grief after four men were gunned down execution-style in Ext 19 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Hiding in the dark during the peak of stage six load-shedding, the armed men shot and killed Eddie Jiyane, Nkululeko Khanyi, Tshepo Letlhagile and Frans Makau.

Nkululeko was sitting with his friend Tshepo outside his home where he runs a small tuck shop where they were playing music through a speaker box when the shooting spree allegedly started.

Nkululeko’s mother Betty Khanyi said she was sleeping when she heard the gun going off.

“The sound of the gun was too close that I thought they were shooting outside my bedroom window.

“While I was trying to make sense of what was happening, I heard my son apologising and pleading for his life to be spared.

“I heard him say, I don’t have more money and the shooter responded that there is money in the house and soon after that I heard the gun go off again,” she added.

Betty added after a short silence, she was about to open her door to investigate outside when she heard the gun go off again.

“I heard my son pleading for help, with his hand held up, praying that he survived. When we finally managed to get to him he was already dead,” she said.

A few meters from the lifeless bodies of Nkululeko and Tshepo, Frans and Eddie were found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Nkululeko, Tshepo and Eddie were certified dead on the scene while Frans died in hospital.

The parents are demanding justice for their children.

Eddie’s grieving mother Masabatha Jiyane said she doesn’t understand why her son was killed because all his belongings and money were not taken.

“Why did they have to kill these children in such a cruel manner, what did they do,” she asked.

Concerned resident Mathabo Molekoa said they are now living in fear.

“We fear being out in the streets at night especially during load-shedding as the culprits are still on the run and their identities are unknown.

“Load-shedding is not only affecting us financially but now putting our lives in danger,” she added.

Springs police spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala confirmed they are investigating four cases of murder.

“The motive is still unknown but police investigations are underway.

“The suspects are still on the run and we urging anyone with information about their identity to come forward.

Residents can also report information anonymously to 10111 or 011 363 5347,” he added.
