Matumelo Tjabadi will cycle almost 600km from Springs to Durban, hoping to spark interest in the sport.

“I believe sports can bring change to young people’s lives. I have noticed our community does not have many sports activities for children, and as a result, they are idle and end up smoking and drinking. My cycling journey will encourage women and the youth,” said Tjabadi.

Leaving on Tuesday, she also goes to Durban for the Amashova National Classic road race.

“I have done this challenge for the last two years and want to involve the Kwatsaduza community, starting in Kwa-Thema.

Matumelo Tjabadi is ready to mentor aspiring cyclists.

“I would like to take the children off the streets and make them active this festive season by hosting cycling events in our community.

“Instead of the parents buying their children cellphones or expensive gadgets, I challenge them to buy or fix bikes for them,” she explained.

Tjabadi also challenges businesses to collaborate with her for safety to buy cycling helmets for children. She said this initiative would bring fun to cycling, a great way to exercise.
