Kwa-Thema – SheReigns is a non-profit organisation strictly aimed and educating, building, supporting and guiding girls in all ways possible.
“We try and make young girls understand that their past mistakes do not define them and if poverty is where it started or where it is, it cannot be where it ends.
“We try and realign them back to their goals, dreams and ambitions through our different segments,” said NPO founder Bongiwe Masombuka.
She highlighted that the NPO targets girls from the ages of 12 to 20 years, saying the organisation wants to deal with mental health because they understand that every action starts with a thought.
The organisation held a fundraising programme through a Women’s Day celebration event in August.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds for assisting two matric learners with their matric dance preparation.
“We made sure that they had transportation to get them to the venue of the dance, that they had accessories (matric dance dresses, shoes), and that they had make-up.
“We have been working with these girls since 2020 when we started the organisation,” Masombuka said.
She mentioned that the two girls did not want to attend their dance because they were shy.
“We had to boost their confidence. They come from semi-underprivileged backgrounds and we had to meet them halfway.
“Every girl should be given a chance to feel beautiful and forget just a bit about where they come from or what they do not have,” she added.
Masombuka further added that they gave the girls a chance to be the centre of attention and feel like the queens that they are.
The NPO recently also distributed dignitary packs to deserving individuals with an emphasis on the importance of hygiene.
“It is a confidence booster. We asked our church leaders and Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church to identify girls who need our services within the community and were given a list.
“We went to visit the different homes to assess if our services are really needed if these homes gravitate towards unprivileged homes,” she said.
She concluded by mentioning that her NPO successfully managed to give dignitary packs to 16 girls who are currently under their organisation’s care.
