Kuso Fun Walk unites community for Heritage Day and GBV awareness
Many people flocked to Kutlwano Social Organisation’s (Kuso) fun walk and Heritage Day celebration on September 24.
Hundreds descended on the Kwa-Thema Stadium on September 24 to participate in the Kutlwano Social Organisation’s (Kuso) fun walk and Heritage Day commemoration.
Kuso also spread a message against GBVF under the theme “Act against GBV, Show Respect”. Kuso’s member of the communications committee, Pule Malefane, addressed the crowd before the walk and outlined the aim of the fundraising fun walk as an initiative that helps Kuso build capital to address the socio-economic challenges facing the community in general and children in particular.
Malefane said, “Your support, as the public, for our event goes a long way in us funding some of our projects, such as the Dress the Learner campaign and the Restore the Girl Child’s Dignity, by distributing dignity packs.
“As we commemorate Heritage Day, we must reflect on our values of ubuntu to ensure we care for the most vulnerable in our communities to build a caring nation.”
Young and old braved the weather and took to the 10km walk, and later joined the gruelling two-hour aerobics session conducted by instructor Julia Mankhedi. The day saw music and dance from 82 artists lined up to showcase what townships had produced.

The performances ranged from solo musical renditions to maskandi, pantsula dance and poetry.
Kuso chairperson Dali Mofokeng, said,” We commemorate Heritage Day in remembrance of heroes and heroines who contributed immensely to where we are today. Our heritage reminds us of our roots. It gives us strength and makes us unique as a nation.
“We thank the community for supporting us and coming in numbers to commemorate this day. We thank all who donated and contributed to making this day a success, in particular, the artists who comprised of youth, who worked day and night to prepare for this day.”
The programme concluded with a presentation of certificates to all artists performing in the event. Magician Uncle Jack, who also did face painting and balloon sculpturing, entertained the children.
