Soulcafe96 soon to drop new album

Vusi Mphuthi makes music with the purpose of healing, providing direction and a sense of belonging to those suffering from anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

Duduza – In the heart of Duduza lives a brilliant DJ and producer, a rising star making waves in the music industry. Vusi Mphuthi (28), known as ‘Soulcafe96’, is a self-made DJ whose journey in the industry began at 23.

“I am not famous yet, but I am working hard to get my music out there. I have been a DJ since I was young but only learnt to make music on a computer when in my 20s. I chalk it up to putting in a lot of hours and being consistent every day,” he said.

Mphuthi said he has been interested in music since childhood, saying his love for music led to an interest in DJing and learning more about music.

Mphuthi said after he had realised his passion for music, he knew he needed musical equipment to start learning the basics of being a DJ, citing that he started a business to raise funds to buy his desired equipment.

“I started selling snacks and sweets at school until I finally reached the amount I was aiming for. I bought the computer. A year later, I was ready to try and play my music for a crowd.

“Sure enough, I was ready. After a few years of mastering the technique of being a DJ, I became curious about how music is made. I then downloaded a programme called Fruity Loop, which creates music. From then, I created music in the amapiano genre,” he added.

Mphuthi said when he was a DJ, he saw how music played an impactful role in people’s lives, saying the experience of playing for everyone led him to develop the skills to make his own music.

“With the experience I attained from being a DJ, I was ready to be a producer, even though I sometimes found it challenging. However, I kept going until my work started making sense,” he cited.

Mphuthi has made many songs and dropped an EP titled Epartini early last year, which comprised seven tracks.

“The EP is available on streaming platforms. I am busy with a banging project that will drop in November. I will also release a single titled KusazoKhanya featuring TrillerM. The single will be a warm-up for the release of my album,” Mphuthi added.

Mphuthi said he is working on an album comprising 10 tracks, stating that he features various artists on the project.

“The album is expected to be released around November. This project is dedicated to everyone suffering from anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

“With this project, I plan to heal and provide a sense of connection, support and understanding in a difficult time. My vision is to keep making good quality sound and inspire young artists,” he concluded.
