Mandlethu wins big in Maths Olympiad

Nondumiso Khoza, a Grade Six learner under the Tsakani/Geluksdal cluster, was the Maths Olympiad top achiever for three consecutive years in the Gauteng East District.

Tsakani – The Mandlethu Primary School learners scooped a few awards for their Maths Olympiad results at the Gauteng East District awards ceremony on August 29 at Laerskool Christiaan Beyers.

Nondumiso Khoza, a Grade Six learner under the Tsakani/Geluksdal cluster, was the Maths Olympiad top achiever for three consecutive years in the Gauteng East District.

Since entering the intermediate phase (Grades Four to Six), she has kept a first position in all the annual Maths Olympiad competitions.

Maths head, and trainer Phindile John describes Nondumiso as a good learner since Grade Four.

“She is self-disciplined regarding her work and always puts in the effort to reach her goals. She is highly numerate and proficient and usually quickly grasps mathematical concepts and strategies to solve problems accurately.

“One thing I like about her is that she is good at sharing ideas, supporting and guiding her peers to reach their full potential,” added John.

Nondumiso and three other learners from the school received trophies, medals and certificates for excellent achievements in the district.

Amahle Ntshangase, in Grade Five, was second, while Oluhle Sibiya, also in Grade Five, took first place.

Nondumiso Khoza, in Grade Six, was first, and Ongeziwe Gaca, in Grade Four, achieved second place.

All these top achievers qualified for the competition’s provincial level, which they wrote on August 26 at Laerskool Selection Park. They eagerly await the results.

The principal, Thembeni Mdhluli, congratulated the winners for their outstanding performances. She is confident they will be on top of the list when the results come out.

“Mandlethu Primary learners are blessed to have hard-working teachers who do justice in class. They work super hard to ensure their learners excel, especially in mathematics. It always pays off.

“Thank you to the parents for their unwavering support throughout,” added Mdhluli.
