EMPD impounds foreign cars

Officers in the area spotted and stopped eight vehicles with foreign registration plates because there is a legal requirement to operate such vehicles within SA’s borders.

Kwatsduza – The EMPD impounded eight foreign cars suspected to be in the country illegally last Wednesday.

The EMPD Specialised Services Overloads Unit officers conducted a sting operation with a stern focus on non-compliant foreign motor vehicles.

Officers in the area spotted and stopped eight vehicles with foreign registration plates because there is a legal requirement to operate such vehicles within SA’s borders.

Upon investigation, intel from a source in Swaziland, and on confirmation of documents, it was discovered that all the motor vehicles’ documents are fraudulent and invalid.

The drivers were not compliant because all the vehicles were from Swaziland.

Investigations also revealed that most of these vehicles were bought in their countries of origin but not registered in the system.

Some owners cannot be traced. All the vehicles were moved to the Boksburg EMPD pounds for safekeeping.
