Feeding scheme celebrates two years

The feeding scheme opens its doors to community members three times a week.

Tsakani – Sphiwe Molefi (53) and Ntombi Nxumalo (43) have run the Sporoville Feeding Scheme initiative in their area on Noga Street, Tsakani, since 2022.

The initiative aims to give back to needy people by offering food to the community.

“The feeding scheme opens its doors to community members every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The initiative mostly targets people who cannot provide for themselves and those who are homeless,” said Nxumalo.

Last Saturday, the initiative celebrated its second anniversary and called upon celebrities to celebrate their special day with them. Through the celebration, the initiative fed over 250 people.

“The aim and goal on Saturday was to feed the community while providing motivation. The motivational talks centred on self-belief, passion and having goals.

“Our guests gave the public tips on determination and persuasion, citing that hard work and focus produce good results. They gave examples using their past experiences and made sure everyone got something positive from what they had to say.

“They furthermore made people aware that we all have hidden talents that need unleashing. They mentioned that dreams always come true, but it just requires a lot of commitment,” Nxumalo said.

Nxumalo said the feedback they received from the community was overwhelming, saying everyone was grateful for their impactful outreach.

She added that their long-term goal is to open a home catering for homeless children from around Kwatsaduza so each child would have a home, be well taken care of and be well fed.

“The aim is to give all deserving children a chance to experience unconditional love, warmth and confidence to make something out of their lives.

“The goal also includes owning an old age home. All we need is sponsorships. But through it all, we are grateful for the assistance from local businesses in our community. They help with contributions towards the feeding scheme,” she added.

The celebration held special events with performances and activities and concluded on a jubilant note with a lot of dancing. The participants received medals.
