Accolades for mathematics marvel

In May, Nomakhwezi participated in the local Mathematics Olympiad for the Intermediate Phase, representing Grade Five from her school.

Duduza – Known for her bright smile and ever-brighter mind Nomakhwezi Kgagara has turned her love for numbers into numerous accolades.

This Grade Five learner at Mamosa Educational Institute will advance to the provincial level of the Mathematics Olympiad.

In May, Nomakhwezi participated in the local Mathematics Olympiad for the Intermediate Phase, representing Grade Five from her school.

She achieved the top spot and progressed to the district level. On August 12, she came second in the District Mathematics Olympiad.

This qualifies her to participate at the provincial level. She will also be honoured in an award ceremony organised by the district on August 29.

“I draw inspiration from my maths teacher, Mr Manele, who has a unique way of making mathematics fun and engaging. And from my father,” she said.

The 11-year-old also enjoys public speaking and playing netball. She also volunteers to conduct assembly from time to time.

She has been the top achiever in every grade, since Grade One.

“I dream of becoming a successful medical doctor. I believe in the power of education to change the world and hope to inspire other young girls to pursue careers in STEM.

“I learned from my father’s success that you have to work hard to achieve your goals,” she said.
