Attempted murder suspect nabbed with illegal guns, ammo

The serial numbers of the firearms were still intact.

EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers, in conjunction with Tsakane SAPS detectives, apprehended a 32-year-old man in Geluksdal on Friday for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition.

Acting on information received about a wanted attempted murder suspect, the EMPD officers went to Uittog Street in Geluksdal, where they found the man in a room.

When the officers searched the house, they discovered a RAP 401 firearm, a 9mm Parabellum firearm and 35 live rounds. The serial numbers of the firearms were still intact.

The man explained to the police he had the firearms because he was once shot and bought the firearms on the streets to protect himself.

Preliminary investigations revealed one firearm was reported stolen in Randfontein and the other one was still to be reported. The suspect was taken to the Tsakane Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon.
