WATCH: Thousands gather at Tsakani Stadium for Presidential Imbizo

Kwatsaduza residents and those from surrounding Ekurhuleni communities flocked to the Tsakani Stadium today (Friday) for the Presidential Imbizo.
The imbizo aimed to evaluate the progress made on the difficulties relating to enhancing service delivery in the community.
President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the crowd, and ordinary residents were afforded the opportunity to have their voices heard.
“We want the president to increase our SASSA grants. The cost of living is very high. What we are getting is just not enough, ” said Mike Shezi, a pensioner.

Other residents complained about unemployment and poor service delivery. In response to some of the issues, the President encouraged residents to continue with their small businesses.
“I see many people selling around Ekurhuleni. Some of them are selling from their homes. We will create markets where all those who can create will be able to sell,” he said.
Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina said leaks are the cause of water issues in the area.
“Water is running down roads, even damaging roads, constantly. Residents need to help the municipality to attend to these leaks and save water.

“Secondly, there are people who are stealing water. They are tapping into the system and taking water that is not meant for them,” she explained.
Another issue of concern was crime. Gauteng is one of the top four provinces with the most crime.
“We are aware of the hotspots. And Tsakani is one of them. We will discuss how to make the ‘cool’ spots.
“We are aware of the issues of the Kwa-Thema Police Station. We are working on it,” explained Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu.
