Artist pays tribute to legendary actress

Local artist Ntokozo Sukazi said he has learned a lot from local artists, especially about business and how to market his work.

Kwa-Thema – Local artist Ntokozo Sukazi was one of a few to be invited to create a portrait of the late Connie Chiume, during her funeral. The funeral was at the Oasis of Life Church in Daveyton, on August 15.

“The portrait is a tribute. Something that we have to remember her,” said Sukazi.

He started working on the piece the day before the funeral and continued to work on it throughout the service.

“It was a wonderful experience, and I met Rasta (Lebani Sirenje) whom I always admired.

“Being in that atmosphere helped me to finish the piece quicker than I usually do,” he added.

Sukazi said he also could speak to other actors who encouraged him to keep working on his craft.

“It is beautiful to hear different stories about how people get their big break,” he said.

He said he enjoys capturing actual memories in his art.

“I started drawing when I was about five. My older brother inspired me. Every opportunity I got, I would draw.

“After school, I started posting my work on social media. I had a great response from celebrities.”

Sukazi said he has learned a lot from local artists, especially about business and how to market his work.
