Operation Basadi brings warmth to community

The Springs Rapid Rail Police joined Transnet Freight Rail and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa to donate blankets to three families in Kwa-Thema Ext 3.

Kwa-Thema – The female officers of the Springs Rapid Rail Police donated blankets to three families in honour of Women’s Month and to initiate positive change in the community.

Operation Basadi saw a collaboration between the Springs Rapid Railway Police, Transnet Freight Rail and the Passenger Rail Agency for South Africa. Three homes in Ext 3 were the beneficiaries.

“This was the first Operation Basadi for Springs Rapid Rail and the beginning of more women-led operations,” said station commander Lieutenant Colonel Nakedi Rapholo.

Before the donations, the officers handed out GBV pamphlets at the Springs Taxi Rank.

“When it comes to crime prevention, the SAPS knows no gender. Women can also lead from the front. We want the community to know that SAPS officers are capable, irrespective of their gender. Because our industry is male-dominated, the work of female officers is often overlooked,” she continued.

She highlighted the need for the community to respect female officers.

“The male community members often give no respect to us. Sometimes, they make inappropriate remarks. We deserve the same respect given to our male colleagues,” Rapholo urged.
