Girls’ soccer team wins champs title

Nkabinde Primary School’s U13 girls’ soccer team returned home with gold from the Kay Motsepe Schools Championships.

Kwa-Thema – Nkabinde Primary School’s U13 girls’ soccer team returned home with gold from the Kay Motsepe Schools Championships.

The defending champs proved why they became the provincial winners last year.

Nkabinde thrashed Redumletswe Primary School from Kwa-Thema 2-0 in the group stages and then beat Laerskool Werda 2-1.

The team then fought for the title in the district, Gauteng East. They walked over Happiness Primary School from Alra Park 3-0.

They made it past Bopang Kgotso Primary School from Vosloorus in the regional test.

“I am very proud of them because they put their best foot forward from the beginning. They worked hard,” said coach Senzo Mthembu.

On August 17, the team dealt with Sabebuso Primary School from Soweto, scored two goals and left them goalless.

On the same day, they won the semi-final against Sithokomelo Primary School from Heidelberg 6-0.

In the final, Nkabinde claimed a 2-0 victory against Meetse a Bophelo Primary School from Mamelodi.

The team will represent Gauteng in the national finals in September.
