Operation crackdown on drug syndicates continues

The EMPD officers continued with operations to crack down on drug syndicates.

Duduza – EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers intercepted two men for possession of and possible dealing in illicit substances in Nigel and Duduza on July 26.

The officers continued running operations to crack down on drug syndicates throughout the CoE. EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said that while patrolling, officers spotted a suspicious male on a corner in Ext 3.

“Upon questioning the uneasy Mozambican national (40), who claimed to be waiting for a friend, officers requested to do a body search on him, to which he unconfidently agreed.

“During the body search, officers found 17 ziplock packets of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R1 700,” Thepa said.

She added that officers further cornered an 18-year-old male with 40 brown plastic wraps containing street heroin (nyaope) with an estimated street value of R2 000.

“The handcuffed twosome were marched to the Nigel and Duduza police stations, and the confiscated illicit substances were booked at the respective police stations. They will soon appear in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court,” she added.
