EMPD takes drugs off street

The three suspects are expected to soon appear at the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court.

Tsakani – EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers intercepted three male suspects between the ages of 25 and 40 for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances in the Tsakani area on July 24.

EMPD officers continued with their quest to bring down drug syndicates to have a drug-free CoE. According to the EMPD spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, officers carried out a sting operation in the early hours of the morning, armed with information from a reliable source on the whereabouts of these drug dealers in the area.

“Officers cornered a 25-year-old Mozambican national on Rolihlahla Street in Ext 8 with 20 ziplock packets of crystal meth and 20 star Mandrax tablets, all with the estimated street value of R3 000 and R540 in cash.

“At the same address, officers intercepted a 40-year-old male with 100 brown plastic wraps, which contained substances suspected to be drugs, with the estimated street value of R5 000 and R660 in cash,” said Thepa.

She added that officers apprehended a 33-year-old man, also on Rolihlahla Street, with 40 brown plastic wraps, which contained substances suspected to be drugs, with an estimated street value of R2 000

“The R10 000 worth of narcotics and cash were booked at the Tsakane Police Station,” she said.

The threesome, facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, are expected to soon appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court.
