Children’s home feeds the community
Jabulile and Lucky Molakeng believe in the spirit of ubuntu and unity.
Kwa-Thema – The founders of Sibusiso Children’s Home, Jabulile and Lucky Molakeng, held a soup kitchen on July 18 as part of their Mandela Day celebration.
The soup kitchen was primarily for children in the community. Jabulile said they always receive help from the community, so this time, they decided to offer it.
“We noticed that there is a wide gap in the community that affects children, especially school children. They come from different backgrounds and face different challenges daily.
“Some go to school without eating, some eat once a day – and that is at school. This affects their concentration at school and the child’s self-esteem and ability to perform significantly,” she said.
She added that as a children’s home, they sometimes have children who walk in and ask for food or food parcels.
She said they cannot help with food parcels but often provide food to needy people when asked to assist.
“We decided to do a Mandela Day soup kitchen to bring joy to those in need through food.
“It breaks our hearts to see children suffer without a helping hand. We know most people in our community are affected by unemployment, which makes it difficult for them to provide for their basic needs.
“We believe in the spirit of ubuntu (humanity to others), and one achieves unity through assisting one another,” added Jabulile.
The children’s home fed over 40 children through their soup kitchen and believes that through donations and help from the community, they could regularly do soup kitchens for the children.
