EMPD officers educate little ones about road safety

EMPD officers took time to educate children about the different road signs to encourage a safer journey to and from school.

Tsakani – EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers raised awareness and spoke to children about road safety on July 11.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said with schools opening for the third term, EMPD officers immediately acted by starting with their Child in Traffic operations.

“Learners will be making their way back to school after a long holiday, some will be making use of transport and some will be walking to and from school.

“Officers made their way to Zanele’s Little Minions Day Care, Future Kids Day Care Centre and the Joy Of The Lord, to engage the little ones on road safety.

“Among the topics was that of how to read and understand the road traffic signals and how to make use, of the pedestrian crossing,” said Thepa.

She also added that officers made use of different methods to capture the attention of the little ones by singing and dancing, as most children adapt easily through learn and play.

“The little ones showed great excitement to have their heroes in blue in the same room and participated fully in the activities presented by officers.

“The EMPD will be making rounds at registered and upcoming day care centres throughout the CoE to enhance the Child in Traffic programme and to give advice, if need be,” she added.
