EMPD cuffs suspected drug dealers

Trio arrested and facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance.

Tsakani – EMPD Eastern Region Task Team members pounced on three men for the possession of illicit substances on July 12.

“The officers, with boots on the ground from the early hours of the morning, received information from a reliable source about three drug syndicates operating in the area.

“Officers immediately followed up on the information received and sprang a surprise visit at the identified address on Tlokwa Street.

“They cornered a 30-year-old suspect found with 24 white plastic packets of street heroin (nyaope) and nine ziplock packets of street heroin (mazababa) valued at R3 300,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

Thepa added that the information led officers to another address in Langaville Ext 2, where they intercepted a 39-year-old suspect found with 20 brown plastic wraps containing street heroin valued at R2 000.

“On Madiba Street, officers apprehended a 45-year-old suspect with five half Mandrax tablets valued at R900.

“The confiscated illicit substances valued at R6 500 were booked at the Tsakane Police Station, while the handcuffed threesome was marched to the same police station,” added Thepa.

The trio face charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances. They should soon appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court.
