EMPD cracks down on drugs, dealing

Three men were nabbed for allegedly dealing in illicit substances.

Tsakani – EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit officers intercepted three men, aged 30, 33 and 51, for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances on June 27.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said officers performing law enforcement duties as part of the anti-drugs operation conducted throughout the CoE received intel from concerned community members about three illegal traders selling illicit substances to the public.

“Law enforcers immediately responded and proceeded to an identified address on Holihlahla Street, where they cornered a 33-year-old suspect with 10 brownish plastic wraps containing street heroin (nyaope).

“Officers cornered the 51-year-old second suspect with 35 small plastic bags containing rock (crack cocaine),” said Thepa.

Thepa added that officers wrapped up the operation two blocks away, where they intercepted a 30-year-old suspect found with 14 brownish plastic wraps containing street heroin and R60 in cash.

“All the confiscated narcotics are valued at R2 500. The handcuffed trio was booked at the Tsakane police station, and they should soon appear at the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court,” added Thepa.
