EMPD arrests drug suspects in Tsakani

Four men were arrested for possessing illegal substances.

EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers apprehended four men, aged 23, 32, 36 and 39, for possession of illicit substances on June 24.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said officers received information from a reliable source about the four suspects selling illicit substances to community members.

She added that officers immediately acted on the information received and conducted a sting operation to crack down on these drug syndicates.

“Officers proceeded to the given address, on the corner of Dhlamini and Ndabezitha streets, where they cornered a 39-year-old with 20 rocks valued at R2 000.

“Officers arrested the 36-year-old on the corner of Noka and Ratladi streets with 70 Mandrax tablets and 10 rock tablets valued at R8 000.

“Officers intercepted the third suspect, aged 23, on Sotho Street with 19 packets of heroin valued at R1 900. The fourth suspect was apprehended on Batheon Street in Rockville, with seven packets of street heroin (mazababa) valued at R700,” added Thepa.

Officers escorted the handcuffed foursome to the Tsakani Police Station. They face charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances.

Thepa said all exhibits were booked at the police station, and the men should appear in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court.
