Marathon games and fun walk for bambinos

Local crèches will participate in a mini-marathon and kiddies Olympic Games.

Isinyathelo Esihle Ward 80 Backyard Crèches Forum, an organisation focusing on uplifting and assisting crèches in Kwa-Thema, will host its third annual marathon games and fun walk on June 28.

The organisation hosts this event annually at Ziba Park as part of outdoor learning that enable children to play different outdoor games as part of their curriculum.

The day further is a Youth Month celebration for the children to enjoy socialising and having fun with children from other daycare centres.

Organisation chairperson Mxolisi Mntakwende said they invited centres affiliated with the forum to participate on the day.

“We will start with a 1.6km fun walk from the corner of Kotane Street and Thema Road before we will proceed to Ziba Park for games.

”Through the games, we want to teach children about the importance of unity, teamwork and cooperation.

“It is important to teach our children these things at a young age.”

Mntakwende further stated the forum needed sponsors or donations to make the day a success. He further added they not only needed donations for their fun walk but also for the crèches.

“As a forum, we do not have enough funds to host the event on our own. With help, we would like sponsors to provide us with refreshments and medals for the 200 children who will participate.

“Our crèches need things such as jungle gyms, swings for the play area, stationery, chairs, tables and minor renovations.

“Sponsorship will go towards helping us cover costs associated with putting on an event of this scale and improving the facilities we assist,” added Mntakwende.

Mntakwende cited they wanted to make the day extra special by providing food parcels to those in need.

“This year, we also want to issue food parcels to the children, as most come from disadvantaged families.

“We want them to take home something handy and impactful for that week,” he said.
