Church and school choir played a huge role in shaping him to become an artist.

Tsakani – Tsakani artist Gift ‘Mgiftoz SA’ Matjie is making a name for himself.

“I am a vocalist in different genres but popularly known for my amapiano songs. I receive my inspiration from some of our well-known artists namely Leehleza, Mark Khoza, Mlindo, and Samthing Soweto.

“When amapiano started as a genre, these artists made it sound cool and that is when I told myself that one day I will become an artist,” said Matjie.

Matjie said he is not only an amapiano vocalist but a versatile artist.

“I am experimenting with different genres and I am passionate about a lot of things including fashion, travelling and event planning.

“Being an artist allows me to exercise all my interests,” he said.

Matjie said he has worked with a number of artists that are all well-known in SA.

“To name a few, I have worked with the late Mpura and Killer Kau, De Mthuda, Kelvin Momo, Leemckrazy, Njelic and DJ Jaivane.

“I did a single called Dudlu with Kelvin Momo in December 2022 as part of his album called Ivy League.

“I also did an unreleased song with De Mthuda and Njelic in 2023 called Mama,” added Matjie.

“I see myself reaching greater things, dropping as much music as I possibly can, teaching as much as I can about the music industry.

“This industry has taken me on a learning journey. I have learnt that the industry is not only based on being an artist but it is also a business.

“I have made mistakes in the past, mistakes I may never repeat. This path is also designed for learning,” said Matjie.

Matjie added that he is currently working on an EP with SA DJ, music producer, musician, rapper, songwriter and performing artist, Busta929.
