Estikini tournament ends in victory for Chazment

Sixteen teams participated in the 6-a-side Estikini tournament at Zamani ka Batter grounds.

Chazment FC beat Ndwandwe 1-0 in a final tournament match. The Estikini tournament took place at Zamani ka Batter grounds in Duduza on April 27 to April 28.

Chazment played against Ndwandwe in a heated game after qualifying for the finals when they won 2-0 against Elnino in the semi-finals.

The first half was goalless as both teams fought to score with no luck. The second half ended 0-0 with multiple missed goals from both opponents.

The game went into penalties. Ndwandwe missed their three penalties and Chazment missed their first two. The final pressure was on Jongokuhle Nzima who made his team proud by scoring the third penalty securing a win for Chazment.

“I’m happy about our win because we won against all odds. On the first day of the tournament, things were not going so well, we couldn’t even finish one of our games but today we managed to come back and win,” Nzima said excitedly.

Sibusiso Tshabalala, one of the organisers, spoke about why the tournament was developed.

“We established this tournament to get the young boys in our community out of trouble. We started this tournament last year. We don’t have sponsors; we use money from our own pockets.

“In our community, there are people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction but are talented. This tournament is to show that our community is full of talented individuals who just need someone to believe in them,” he said.

Sixteen teams participated in 32 games on the first day. The games continued on Sunday until only eight teams were left to compete in the knockout stage.
