We asked residents of the CoE what changes they hope to see in their communities in light of a new mayor being appointed.

The CoE welcomed its new mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, after Sivuyile Ngodwana was voted out.
We asked residents of the CoE what changes they hope to see in their communities in light of a new mayor being appointed.
Veli Mhlanga: “Springs is very polluted. The local government should hire people to come and clean the environment. The mayor should also work to reduce unemployment so there can be change. He should make a difference.”
Thabo Dhladhla: “I want to see the building of public parks for children to have a safe place to play. Also, I live in Daveyton, and the closest library is a 30-minute walk, so we need more libraries in our community and fewer power outages.”
Jonas Mashiyane: “The change I want to see is a cleaner environment, especially in the CBD. It is dirty, and some people don’t belong there. Even motorists are afraid to park their cars at public parking lots because they don’t trust who works there.”
Hlengiwe Kakole: “Elderly people receive indigent relief for only three years, and they are not even notified to renew it, so they end up owing the municipality. The old leadership was incompetent, so I hope this new leadership brings change.”
