Cambridge FC beats FBS FC

Cambridge FC pressing for promotion playoffs.

Cambridge Football Club played their next league game against FBS Football Club in Vosloorus on April 6 and came away with a 1-0 win.

Both teams are in the league’s top five teams standings – FBS is fourth and Cambridge fifth.

With the history between the two teams, there are always tough encounters where neither team wants to give an inch.

In the first stanza, FBS had the most ball possession, and Cambridge had to do most of the defending. There were no goals scored in the first half.

In the second half, Cambridge kept more possession of the ball. When the opportunity presented itself, Mothusi Mqele found striker Ignatius Nyathi, who headed the ball into the FBS net for the only goal of the match. FBS tried their utmost to get the equaliser, but Cambridge’s defence stood firm.

The Cambridge FC goalkeeper did not crumble under pressure and saved various shots at goal.

“It’s never easy to play against a tactical good opposition like FBS. With the win, the boys showed they can compete against strong clubs,” said Cambridge FC coach Minhle Cooper Dineka Mthimkhulu.

“The team has shown great improvement since the tournament started, and we hope this consistency carries on until the end so we get to play in the playoffs for promotion,” said Cambridge club chairperson Ignatius Maphike.

The win has placed Cambridge FC third on the log and eight points away from log leaders Alberton FC, with five matches to conclude the season.
