Ezenkosi beat African All Stars

The Ezenkosi fans started singing after the first goal.

Duduza – It was a heated encounter in the Kwatsaduza derby when African All Stars (Amazozo) faced Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday at the Duduza Stadium in an ABC Motsepe League match.

They had to pause the game for a few minutes after it started to accommodate the visitors (Amazozo) getting chairs for their bench.

Amazozo were on fire during the first half, with Samkele Sihlali scoring the opening goal about 20 minutes into the game.

The game went to the halftime break on 1-0.

The game was paused for a few minutes after it had started.

Ezenkosi came back a bit confident, pulling a strong defence at the back to prevent Amazozo from scoring more goals.

The second half saw the Ezenkosi coach, Jomo Sono, get off his chair and stay on his feet for 45 minutes.

Timmy Kushata scored Ezenkosi’s first goal after two minutes of the second half. This goal got the fans to stand up and sing.

Both teams created chances but failed to score until 60 minutes into the game when Zuko Gxabuza scored the second goal for Ezenkosi, the last goal seen.

Amazozo coach Themba Masango said, “Our players lacked concentration and had no confidence to win the game. We warned our players that the only player they should watch out for is Ezenkosi’s right winger, Ignatius Dikgale.”

Masango said they should have defended the lead by playing a zonal marking strategy but, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Sono said he usually stands during the second half because he calls upon his ancestors during that time for help.

“This was not a difficult game. We could have scored more goals. We wanted to win this game badly because, in the first round, they robbed us. So we told them that, in this game, we have to play fair, and we won,” Sono said.

Ezenkosi has had nine consecutive unbeaten runs so far, with only four games to the end of the league. Sono said the unbeaten runs give them confidence that they’ll emerge victorious at the end of the season.

They are third on the log at 60 points, eight points behind the log leaders, and Amazozo remains in the sixth position at 56 points.

Ezenkosi will face Highlands Park on April 6 at the Duduza Stadium.
