EMPD ramps up domestic violence awareness

Among the topics discussed was bringing about change in the behaviour of men.

EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers continued their sweep of various informal settlements on March 16 and 17 to raise awareness of domestic violence and GBV in Kwa-Thema and Daveyton.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson of the EMPD, officers went to the informal settlement community of Barcelona in Kwa-Thema, to hold discussions about domestic violence and GBV.

Among the topics discussed was bringing about change in the behaviour of men in their different households and the importance of addressing issues of stress and depression that fuel domestic violence.

At the Mogoba informal settlement in Daveyton, officers engaged community members on how to seek assistance or report cases of domestic violence in their communities.

The importance of protecting women and children was discussed at length.

Officers also shared contact details of organisations that offer support with issues of domestic violence.

The EMPD applauds the sterling work of its members to bring about change in communities.
