Entities help elders open bank accounts

Pensioners opened bank accounts to received their grants on Wednesday.

Kwa-Thema – Pensioners faced challenges with their gold cards late last year because they were expired, leading to them not getting their grants for a month.

This led to a visit by the Chilla no Jamza NPO and Eazipay to the Ratanang Elderly Organisation at the Holiness Union Church in Kwa-Thema.

Nokulunga Nhlanhla from both organisations said they are trying to make things easier for the elders by advising them to have bank accounts instead of depending on the SASSA cards.

“We saw how hard it was for our elders who had to go for a month without their grants. These grants mean a lot to them because it is their way of living and surviving,” she said.

The elders received information and assistance to open bank accounts to receive their grants.
Chilla no Jama also provided them with refreshments.

Ratanang founder Nomvula Anna Sibanyoni said she was happy because the elders had received the information.

“It used to hurt me hearing stories of how the elders had no food or money for necessities during our meetings,” Sibanyoni said.
