Soweto giants to lock horns in derby

Matsepane said the game will pay tribute to the late Sphiwe Mkhonza.

Kwatsaduza – The Soweto Derby, which has the biggest game in PSL history, will take place on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

This game brings together soccer fans as they want to see which team remains the best between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

As it stands, Chiefs have won more head-to-head encounters, while the Pirates have won more recent games in the PSL and cup competitions.

Orlando Pirates supporter Rangwane Makgabutlane congratulated Amakhosi for winning their first game this year on Tuesday; 1-0 against Golden Arrows.

“Chiefs was created to always win against us. They would want to redeem themselves on Saturday in our encounter,” Makgabutlane said.

He said they are going to win the game 2-0 either way, though it will be a tough game.

“Should we lose the game, may Amabuccaneer not blame the coach,” he pleaded.

Chiefs supporter Mohlahli Teka Matsepane said this will be a game played in honour of the late former Chiefs defender, Sphiwe Mkhonza, who died on Tuesday.

“My score prediction is 0-0, however, should Pirates lose focus, we will win the game,” said Matsepane.

He said winning the game would be sending off Mkhonza in a more dignified manner and he would rest well, knowing Chiefs beat Pirates.

Mohlahli Teka Matsepane says given a chance, the Chiefs will win against Pirates. Rangwane Mkgabutlane is an avid Pirates supporter.

Matsepane said both the teams’ scoring chances are low as Amakhosi won their previous game 1-0 while the Bucs drew 1-all.

He also urged supporters to arrive early at the stadium to avoid congestion at entrances.

“They should also drive well on the roads or hire taxis in groups,” he said.

Matsepane said it hurts that there are fatal accidents after every derby on the roads caused by people who were at the stadium.

Kick-off will be at 15:30.
