Duduza dojo brings home medals

Duduza proved they were a force to be reckoned with by dominating most divisions they were fighting in.

Duduza – The International Karate Organisation Kyokushin Kaikan (IKOK) Sonoda Duduza branch displayed exceptional performance in the martial art ring during the second annual Knockdown Karate National Tournament, organised by IKOK Sonoda – South Africa in Soweto Communal Hall on February 24.

The tournament was attended by more than 130 fighters from all over Gauteng belonging to different highly recognised and respected international karate organisations such as Kyokushin Kaikan, International Kyokushin Karate Federation, International Kyokushin Organisation Matsushima, Shin Kyokushin, African Full Contact Karate Organisation, and individual fighters not affiliated to any organisation.

Duduza proved they were a force to be reckoned with by dominating most divisions they were fighting in.

Bheki Radebe, founder and manager of the Duduza dojo, said despite all the challenges they had while preparing for this tournament, his students made him proud with the splendid skill they displayed against their opponents in the ring.

“We had challenges with the training venue, which affected our preparations, as we were told we could not use the venue anymore.

“I am happy with the results of our performance, considering the circumstances. Out of the nine fighters we affiliated with the competition, seven came out on top and two lost only on technicalities,” said Radebe.

• Elton Ncube won gold fighting in the boys’ U35kg division.
• Mincili Dubula won gold fighting in the girls’ U35kg division.
• Sa Malaza won gold in the girls’ U50kg division.
• Motlotlegi Chapule won silver in the boys’ U35kg division.
• Samuel Makhubu won bronze in the boys’ U35kg division.
• Tshepang Phadime won bronze in the boys’ U50kg division.
• Lerato Redebe won fourth place in the girls’ U50kg division.

Radebe said the next chapter in their book is to prepare for the championship challenge in May this year in Spruitview. There, they will compete with fighters from other African countries.

“We intend to use this momentum to prepare for the African Full Contact Karate Organization Championship, one of the most intensive contests to be ever organised in Ekurhuleni.

“We appreciate the management of the resource centre for availing a classroom for our training, which we will be using going forward until we find a place where we can even store or keep our training equipment,” added Radebe.
