Bank-following suspect killed after botched robbery

Couple followed after withdrawing cash at a bank.

A would-be robber was shot and killed on Monday after trying to rob a married couple of cash.
Four men ambushed the couple after the husband made a large withdrawal at a bank in the Springs Mall at around noon.
Captain Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni District SAPS spokesperson, said the couple left the mall in their Range Rover. They did not realise the occupants of a Toyota Corolla followed them.
They drove to Tonk Meter Crossing and stopped to make a purchase, where the husband left his wife in the car.
Four men then confronted her and demanded the money.
The wife jumped out of the vehicle with the bag of money and called for help. She threw the bag inside a printing shop.
It is reported the perpetrators shot at the woman. She was not injured.
One man then confronted the husband, and a struggle ensued. The husband shot at his attacker with his private firearm, fatally wounding him.
The man was shot in the upper body. His three accomplices evaded capture.
Dunnotar police are investigating cases of attempted robbery and attempted murder.
