EMPD finds stolen bakkie

Over the weekend, EMPD officers recovered a stolen car in Tsakani.

A Ford Bantam reported stolen in Springs was recovered in Tsakani recently. The Tactical Unit officers received information about a stolen white bakkie taken in Springs.

Officers responded, and the bakkie, matching the same description, was found deserted at a car wash in the Tsakani area on Imibala Boulevard near Langaville.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, officers inspected the vehicle, and after it tested positive for theft, they took it to the nearest police yard for safekeeping.

In another incident over the weekend, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct officers and the Tactical Response Unit arrested a 45-year-old male who was allegedly brandishing a gun at other road users.

The Ford Ranger’s driver was arrested after a toy gun he had brandished was found in the car.

This arrest came after concerned drivers approached the EMPD officers to say they had witnessed a driver randomly pointing a firearm at other motorists.

Officers received a description of the white Ford Ranger LDV, and under the impression it could be a dangerous road rage complaint, they leapt into action.

Not long afterwards, an LDV with one occupant fitting the description of the wanted was spotted at an intersection of Putfontien and Van Ryn roads.

Officers instructed the driver to stop and did a thorough search. They seized a black G19C 9mm toy gun.

The suspect was arrested and detained at Crystal Park police station. He will soon appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
