The body of award-winning South African Afro-pop singer Bulelwa Mkutukana, popularly known as Zahara, is currently being kept at a local funeral home in Tsakani.

Zahara passed away on Monday after being in the Netcare Olivedale Hospital in Randburg, reportedly with liver complications.

Her body was embalmed at the mortuary in preparation for transportation to her home town in the Eastern Cape.

The process of embalming, which preserves the body by preventing decay, takes a few weeks, essentially replacing the bodily fluids with a formaldehyde solution.

Zahara’s body will be leaving the funeral home on Saturday morning. Her body will be taken to her home in Roodepoort and then to OR Tambo International Airport to depart to her home town.
