GBV concerns KUSO

“Women and children cannot continue to be victims of a society that is at war with itself when men continue to be spectators".

Kutlwano Social Organisation (KUSO) is observing the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign from November 25 (UN International Day of No Violence Against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day).

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the challenges women face from the violence meted out against them, which leads to emotional, physical and spiritual abuse. This year’s campaign theme is Accelerating Action to End GBV and Femicide, Leaving No One Behind.

KUSO is concerned about the increase of GBV in communities and the brutal killing of young women by their partners and calls for the immediate end of these barbaric acts.

KUSO chairperson Dali Mofokeng said, “Women and children cannot continue to be victims of a society that is at war with itself when men continue to be spectators.

“These atrocities cannot stop unless we, as responsible fathers, brothers, sons and friends, say ‘enough is enough and not in our name’. The unity we saw when defeating apartheid must be the same unity we see in fighting the demon of GBV.”

KUSO supports the efforts and initiatives of the government in general and Gauteng, in particular, to make the province a safer place to live in.

These efforts must be complemented by active citizenship, where community-based organisations and individuals take charge of their homes, streets, townships and suburbs to ensure we all live in a safe and secure environment.

KUSO believes society must become vigilant and protective, report all cases of GBV, and demand that justice is served to the victims and they get the necessary support.
