SAPS warns of kidnapping threat

A female suspect was nabbed over the weekend in connection with a case of kidnapping, among other suspects detained for various crimes.

The Alberton SAPS, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the area, nabbed 22 suspects for their alleged crimes between November 10 and 12.

The suspects allegedly committed crimes ranging from driving drunk, shoplifting, assault with intention to commit grievous bodily harm, and assault to the possession of suspected stolen property.

Other crimes included business burglary and theft, assault under domestic violence, dealing in and possession of dagga, theft, kidnapping, and robbery.

The suspects were charged and taken to a local court.

Alberton SAPS Captain Manare Ramotshela applauded all members involved, adding that the station commander welcomed their good work.

He advised the community to be extra vigilant this festive season in light of a kidnapping case opened over the weekend.

“A male victim was taken from one of the local malls on November 11, and the alleged criminals took the victim’s cellphone. They tied the victim with a rope and demanded his PIN code.

“The victim refused to give them the PIN, so they assaulted him. They held him against his will before later releasing him,” explained Ramotshela.

The victim said that on the next day, he went to the bank and found his debit orders were reversed. A female suspect was arrested on November 12 in connection with the incident on charges of kidnapping, assault and robbery.
