Solar generators installed at Ext 2 sewage pump

Ward 77 Clr Thulani Dunjana said the solar generators will ensure the sewage pump is not affected during load-shedding.

Kwa-Thema – A permanent solution for the Extension Two sewage pump has been put into place. Last week, solar generators were installed at the site.

Ward 77 Clr Thulani Dunjana said the solar generators will ensure the sewage pump is not affected during load-shedding.

“Once there is load-shedding the generators will kick in, ensuring continuous operation.

“Through this initiative, we hope residents will be spared from experiencing sewage deposits in their homes,” he explained.

On February 23, the African Reporter published the challenges facing residents (‘Ext Two residents live in pool of sewage’).

Residents were exposed to the stench of sewage, with used sanitary pads, panty liners, human faeces and used condoms in their homes, streets and pavements.

Concerned resident Simon Lokoane said waking up to an overflowing shower drain has become the norm.

“I often wake up in the middle of the night to my house covered in a pool of sewage.

“Every morning I am forced to clean my yard of human faeces, tampons and used condoms deposited from the manhole and drains.

“I can’t remember the last time I opened my windows or sat outside to enjoy fresh air,” he added.
