New Amandebele kaNdzunza chief in Tsakani appointed

“We have our cultures, traditions, customs to practice, indigenous languages to protect, but without leaders, they will eventually fade away.”

Tsakani – Mbalekwa Mahlangu has been appointed as chief of the Amandebele kaNdzunza in Tsakani.

The appointment comes after the Amandebele kaNdzunza identified they don’t have a chief to whom they can report their challenges.

A community meeting was called on Saturday to inform residents of the appointment. Vusi Mthimunye said living in an urban area has diluted some cultural beliefs.

“We have our cultures, traditions, customs to practice, and indigenous languages to protect, but without leaders, they will eventually fade away.

“We also need a leader to report some of the community’s challenges on the local level who will help resolve them,” he said.

For the chief to be recognised, the king must bless him, and he must be issued a certificate. He said they took the matter to the Esgodlweni Royal Palace with a request to appoint Mahlangu as the chief.

“From March this year, the royal house investigated the matter, and the king approved Mbalekwa Mahlangu as the chief.

Mahlangu will be inaugurated next year on a date still to be communicated.

Mthimunye said they are asking all the Ndebele Ndzundza nation to support the initiative as they prepare for the inauguration. The Ndzundza Ntetjana traditional council is in Tsakani Ext 15.
