The children of Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church, Kwa-Thema, learn more about animals

Asanda Nkomo from the church said the aim was to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals in their community.

Kwa-Thema – The children of Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church, Kwa-Thema, joined forces with the Springs SPCA to celebrate the feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.

As part of the initiative, they donated pet food and engaged in activities that fostered their understanding and appreciation for animal welfare.

Asanda Nkomo from the church said the aim was to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals in their community.

“Under the guidance of dedicated volunteers and shelter staff, they embarked on a day-long journey of compassion, enrichment, and meaningful interaction.

“Immersing themselves fully in the experience, they devoted their time to cleaning to maintain the shelter’s hygiene and beautifying the shelter, creating a safe and comfortable haven for the animals awaiting adoption,” she said.

The participants also learnt about the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, and healthcare, equipping them with the tools to become responsible caretakers themselves.

Nkomo added that the partnership between Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church and the SPCA Springs is a testament to the power of unity and collaboration.

“By joining hands, these young activists magnified their individual voices, amplifying their collective impact and ensuring a brighter future for the animals they hold dear.

Father Chaka, the parish priest at Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church, said the church is proud of the young people for their commitment to the well-being of animals.

“Their dedication to the teachings of St Francis of Assisi is inspiring. Their actions remind us of our responsibility to protect and care for all creatures, big and small.

“Through their exemplary efforts, the children from Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church and the SPCA Springs demonstrate that compassion knows no bounds, age, or species.

“Setting an example for their peers and the wider community, they inspire others to actively engage in promoting animal welfare and to cherish the bond we share with our furry companions,” he added.
