Kwa-Thema Police Station wins best police station award

Last year, the Kwa-Thema police detectives won an efficiency award in the provincial detectives' awards.

Kwa-Thema –The Kwa-Thema Police Station bagged the Best Police Station Award in the recent SAPS Ekurhuleni District Excellence Awards.

The award is an overall award given for excellent service provided to the community.

This is despite the Kwa-Thema police working from a dilapidated building, without enough cars and without enough manpower.

The station commander Colonel Nhlanhla Welcome Kunene, said the award meant a lot as it showed they are committed to their work.

“This month only, we had about 30 convictions, which shows the determination of our officers to eradicate crime,” he said.

Kunene said the community has complained the police station gates are closed at 18:00 daily, but there is a gate where pedestrians can get in to utilise the police services.

“We had police stations attacked by criminals who take guns from the police.

“If the gate is closed for cars, the criminals cannot access the police station with their cars to rob us,” he continued.

Kunene said they would like to get a better place to work, as the building they are in only has about four rooms they can utilise.

The other rooms are dilapidated and might have falling ceilings as the rainy season arrives.

“I would like to thank my sector managers as they are doing a great job and they make sure that the law is enforced,” he concluded.
