CoE closes library, awaits repairs by insurance

The Langaville Library’s ceiling was ruined by heavy rains.

Langaville – The CoE regrettably informs the public about the closure of Langaville Library. Because of the recent heavy rains, the ceiling collapsed, and the roof was damaged, causing the facility’s closure. The decision came after finding the library was unsafe for patrons and staff.

“We have already received a quote of R3.9m to fix all the structural damage to the library. We have lodged a claim with our insurance, and upon approval, work will get underway,” explained city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“We are aware of patrons who still have our books at their disposal and do not know what to do with them in the absence of the library.

“The good news is that they can drop off these books at any of our libraries around the city and we encourage the public to drop them off,” he said.

The city further encourages patrons of the Langaville Library, especially learners, to consider using neighbouring libraries.

“We have entered the most critical time of the academic year, and therefore, our libraries will come in handy to prepare our learners for the final examinations,” said Dlamini.

Alternative libraries in the vicinity of Langaville:

• Geluksdal Library, Uittog Avenue, Geluksdal, 011 999 7993/8153.

• Tsakane Library, corner of Xhosa and Gubhela streets, Tsakani, 011 999 8014.

“The city apologises for the situation in Langaville and undertakes to work speedily to ensure the facility is up and running as soon as possible,” concluded Dlamini.
