Kwa-Thema – After a meeting between the MMC for Environment and Waste Management, Clr Eunice Matloga and the community of Kwa-Thema Ext 4, at the Rietfontein Landfill Site on September 6, the MMC called two other meetings without pitching.
Matloga had promised the community she would come with the contractor, who would address them on how they had remedied the site.
The MMC called a meeting at Emakhontheineni in Nyanadu for September 13 but did not arrive. She called another meeting for October 2 at the site but again didn’t pitch.
Ward 77 Clr Thulane Dunjana said the MMC couldn’t come because she could not get hold of the contractor.
Ntsoaki Mjoli, a community member, said the next time the MMC called a meeting, she should be told the community also have commitments because she had not attended the others.
Community members were dissatisfied with the situation and said they couldn’t waste time attending meetings the MMC doesn’t pitch up to.
Sipho Mdluli, another community member, asked Dunjana to tell the MMC to take the issue seriously.
The latest meeting was scheduled for 15:00, but Matloga called Dunjana to cancel at 16:22. The site remains closed.
