Metro urges residents to use water sparingly

Though water has been restored, other municipalities are still affected.

Kwatsaduza – Following weeks of water disruptions from bulk supplier Rand Water, the City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the water supply system has improved. The disruption has not only affected Eurhuleni but also other municipalities in Gauteng.

Though water has been restored, other municipalities are still affected, therefore Rand Water is continuing to implement technical interventions to balance the supply to the province.

In a statement released by the metro, it stated that reservoirs across the system were at 40% at 06:00 this morning and all areas are receiving water, including Tsakani and Kwa-Thema.

Parts of Germiston, which are supplied from the Rusell Roads reservoir and Churchill pump station, are currently impacted by low water pressure to no water due to high water demand and consumption.

To maintain supply to all consumers the city appeals to customers to prioritise water conservation in their daily lives.

Residents are urged to conserve water and implement the following water-saving tips:

• The CoE has a prohibition on irrigation between the hours of 07:00 and 17:00 in place. Therefore residents and businesses should not water their gardens between these hours.

• All public facilities, such as filling stations and shopping malls to reduce flow and number of taps.

• Refrain from filling up swimming pools until the water supply system has stabilised.

• Do not clean paved areas and driveways with clean drinking water and wash cars using buckets.

• Take a two-minute long shower instead of using bathtubs.

• Do not leave your tap running when brushing your teeth.

• Fix all leaking plumbing features in your houses.

• Report leaking water mains and burst pipes immediately to the city.
