A safe space for men’s issues

The Gender Desk hosted a men’s forum.

Kwa-Thema – The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) Springs branch’s Gender Desk hosted a men’s forum for SADTU male teachers under the theme, Man as a psychological being.

The event was at the Kwa-Thema Skills School on Friday.

SADTU Springs branch’s gender convenor Nomzi Gumede said, “The aim was to help do self-introspection, to empower themselves and be able to face the challenges they encounter daily during the execution of their duties.”

The gender desk invited Dr Stanley Leketi to deal with health issues, Antony Mvandaba, a district official, to help with labour issues and Dumane Sibeko, an activist, to motivate teachers about social issues.

The teachers asked questions and discussed issues that disturbed them.

“As a gender convenor, l thank everyone who participated and look forward to working together to fight the GBV in our working environment,” said Gumede.
