SAFA empowers local coaches through training

It is aimed at creating the conditions that will bring about the sustained international success of our national teams.

Kwa-Thema – As part of the SAFA Coach Education Programme, over 80 local coaches attended the workshop from August 12-19 at the Germiston Stadium.

This is an integral part of SAFA’s Vision 2022 plan that requires a fundamental rebuilding of the structures of SAFA at all levels. It is aimed at creating the conditions that will bring about the sustained international success of our national teams.

In a statement released by the association, this is a long-term development plan to achieve the goal of always being in the top three of the African rankings, and in the top 20 of the FIFA rankings.

In order to widen the pool of talent available to the national teams and the other parts of the South African high-performance structures, such as the professional leagues and academies, at least 10% of the South African population must play football.

One of the attendees, Teka Mohlahli, told African Reporter that the workshop was life-changing for local coaches.

“During the training, they went through theory and practical training, technical skills, and life skills. The skills we acquired will help improve our teams, and how coaches interact with the young players, which will help move them to better heights.

“Most of the coaches didn’t have formal training in the sport but are former players but through this opportunity, we will be better equipped,” he said.

The coaching students will receive their certificates during the graduation ceremony in three months’ time.
