Japhtalina Enough Makgene now wonders if she’ll get her grant backdated

Makgene was married to Mokgodi but appeared as Mahlangu on the system.

Kwa-Thema – A woman who had been struggling to get her UIF benefits and Sassa grant now sees the light.

Japhtalina Enough Makgene (68) had an ID, which was not recognised in the system, resulting in her not receiving her UIF since 2009. This followed her retrenchment and the struggle to get her SASSA since she became a pensioner.

“Whenever I go to the labour department or to Sassa, I get to told that I’m a Mahlangu. However, I’m not related to anyone whose surname is Mahlangu,” Makgene said.

She said she was married to Mokgodi, therefore, it makes no sense where the Mahlangu surname comes from.

“I had been to the Springs Home Affairs and the head office in Pretoria but nothing came right,” she said.
After African Reporter sent an enquiry to the DHA. Makgene was called to visit the Springs offices where her ID got fixed.

“I am grateful that my ID issues are now okay. What I wish for is that my financial issues at the Department of Labour and Sassa offices get fixed as well,” she concluded.
