Soccer fans clothe less fortunate

“We did this initiative so that we can help those struggling to make ends meet, especially in child-headed households.”

Kwa- Thema – The Kaizer Chiefs Supporter Ekurhuleni Region celebrated Mandela Day at the Kwa-Thema Family Skills Centre with the elderly and underprivileged children on Saturday.

Club members from all over Ekurhuleni came together to make a difference in the residents’ lives. Pensioners, children and other community members from disadvantaged backgrounds attended.

The Ekurhuleni Regional chairperson of the Kaizer Chiefs Supporters, Mahlomola Khahloe, said they wanted to give back to their communities to show their love for them.

“We decided on this initiative to extend a helping hand to struggling residents, especially the pensioners and child-headed households.

Kaizer Chiefs supporters in Ekurhuleni donated clothes to disadvantaged residents.

“We also wanted to inspire the young generation to share the little they have with those less fortunate,” said Mahlomola.

He added that, as a club, they wanted to leave a legacy and spirit of giving. Among those who received gifts was Julia Ndlovu, who told African Reporter she was grateful for the initiative.

Julia, a foster parent since 2020, said there were days when she battled to meet, to her satisfaction, the child’s needs.

“These clothes will help a lot because the money we get is only enough to buy food and other basic needs,” added Julia.

Ouma Moepeng, the centre supervisor, said they were surprised by the number of people who showed up.

“We did not expect so many people, especially in this weather, it makes it hard to control the beneficiaries. The people supposed to benefit from this drive end up not leaving empty-handed,” said Moepeng.

She said the centre appreciated everything the club had done to support them.

One of the beneficiaries, Violet Molefe (106), received a gift from the club for being the oldest person at the centre.
