Taom Communications celebrates Mandela Day with the class of 2023

“I want every one of them to know the kind of effort they put in is the results they will get out at the end of the year.”

Tsakani – Taom Communication director Basetsana Phora hosted a matric festival to celebrate Mandela Day at the Faranani Multipurpose Centre.

This festival was for all district three schools in Ekurhuleni, but only two schools managed to attend, Tsakani Secondary School and Mamellong Secondary School.

Phora decided to host the initiative when learners seeking career advice approached her, among other things.

“I decided the solution to this would be in the form of a matric festival. I knew I could not impart all this information by myself.

“I invited various institutions and businesses to share information with the learners on the day.

“It has been a while since we had such events in the district, forcing learners to rely on their limited resources for information,” said Phora.

She added that she hoped the learners took what they learnt at the expo and used it to change their lives.

Among those who attended was Ayanda Khumalo, who matriculated in 2020 with seven distinctions.

Speaking to African Reporter, Khumalo said she wanted to use her story as a driving force to encourage the learners to push boundaries to make it.

Standard Bank representatives talked to interested learners about a career in banking.

“I want every one of them to know the kind of effort they put in is the results they will get out at the end of the year. If many learners in Grade 12 during the Covid-19 pandemic passed and achieved their goals, what could stop them?

“I believe our stories will motivate and encourage them to figure out which career path they want to follow,” said Khumalo.

She added that this was a good initiative, given that learners from township schools hardly got to go to career expos.

Organisations like ABSA, Fasch International College, Clinix, Sanca, and many more hosted stalls at the event.
